Aikido - by Tori

This past weekend I beat the crap outta myself when I went to aerobics and thighs/abs class on Saturday and an aikido class on Sunday.  I signed for these three classes through my local community college and let me tell you, I worked my butt off.

I loved Aidido.  My sensei is hilarious and she doesn't scare the bejesus out of me like my Karate sensei did a decade ago.  The best part was that when she had us randomly doing 10 pushups I didn't do girlie ones with my knees on the ground!

On Monday my abs and pecs were hurting.  My sister, who took the abs class with me said her thighs were killing her.  My thighs are pretty strong from when my personal trainer got a hold of me in 2006.  I VERY MUCH ENJOYED seeing a lot of thinner women straining to do squats while it was not hard for me at all!

I still don't know what I weigh.  Someone remind me to go to my friend's house and get on the damn scale.  Better yet, one of you out there in the universe should just buy me a scale.  I'd like a pretty glass one with a digital read-out.  Thanks!

Wow - by Tori

I can't believe that I haven't been posting on a daily basis!

So much for my plan of not eating refined sugar and added sodium.  I've been eating bits of that hidden sugar from salad dressing and sodium in soups.  But what I really noticed was when i ate those chips and the pasta.  My body just does not agree with those bad carbs.  I do great with rice and potatoes but tortillas, pasta, chips... my body screams VIVA LA REVOLUCION!!

The workouts are going well but I still can't explain my mysterious 2 mile foot numbing.  My chiropractor diagnosed me with flat feet which seems to have aggravated my patellafemoral syndrome (my knees don't track correctly).  Thus, my knees lock up in seated positions or when I'm asleep (that hurts like a mofo when trying to straighten knees in ones sleep) and "pop" when I run or walk up/down stairs.  So at 2 miles of jogging/walking my feet start to numb.  I'm wondering if it's anything like carpal tunnel, only it affects the nerve in my ankle/arch instead of my wrist.

So today I walked.  And I paid attention to HOW I walked.  I walk on the outter edge of my feet.  When I walk/jog, I try to do it ball to heel but then my arch cramps up, then my toes go numb, then my whole foot numbs and eventually I feel like I've got rocks in my shoes.  And my left side is worse than my right which makes sense because my left knee cracks more than my right.   At the end of my 2.5 mile walk I noticed slight achiness in my left arch and the feeling that my toes wanted to go numb but I kept walking on the outside of my foot and my toes never went numb.

All in all, I'm still not sure which caused what - the random knee issues since I was a teenager caused the non use of my feet which lead to a flattening arch; or did the flat feet generate all my issues, including the sometimes cracking ankles and hips?  I swear I am not a joint cracker - that crap skeeves me out.

I've got an appointmet in orthopedics on Feb. 11.  I really want a pair of medically issued orthotics.  I spoke with the benefits dept. through my health insurance and they said that they discourage orthotics and that I have to have a medical reason to get a prescription for them.  Gee - does the fact that you can SEE my mis-tracking patella on the x-ray count for a "medical reason"?  We'll let my doc decide.

P.S.  I'm going to sign up for a 10 k in my city and a Tri for Fun Triathalon - it's short with 400 yd swim, 11 mile bike ride, and 3.1 mile run.

Tori's Tuesday Workout and BL Recap

Yesterday I walked/jogged 3.6 miles in one hour.  During BL Geri and I used the balance balls for strength training.  I love the balls.  They force you to work your core muscles because you are trying to stabilize yourself AND you get your intended muscles workout.  My balance ball is probably the most important piece of equipment that I have in my home gym.  Geri has never worked out before so this was a good training session too.  She was calling me all sorts of names when we worked on our hamstrings.  I LOVE IT.  I think I was laughing harder than anything.  Got in some sit ups, a little bit of obliques and some back extensions on the ball.  Back extensions are great because not only are you working on your lower back, but you should also be squeezing your butt cheeks together (gluts - for you fitness gurus) as you lift your upper body.  It's a two-for-one exercise.

I didn't workout on Monday like I had planned so I'm headed out for a 2 mile jog right after I get some fuel in me.  I'd rather not have my blood sugar plummet and be surrounded by whackos in the middle of downtown Oakland.  Eating oven baked chicken with cayenne pepper and garlic/black pepper with a small baked potato - nothin on it.  Just eating the leg right now and when I get back I'll wait an hour and have some veggies, the chicken breast, and other small potato.

I made 3 of these chicken meals last night so I could bring them with me for lunches at work.  I love how much I save money by bringing my lunches instead of buying them.  I spend about $8-$10 a day for lunch and that's with a salad and soup.

As for BL last night.  I enjoy every episode so there's no need to comment on that but I do wonder if the conversations with Jillian and Bettie Sue were staged.  I'm sure the content was original and Bettie Sue's tears were not staged at all but I wonder if Jillian's prodding was her own geniune concern or if the producers wanted her to do it.  But I also loved how she kept asking "why" to get deeper into the reasons people do things/stay fat.  I should do my own written exercise and post it here one of these day to get down to my "why"

This might sound horrible to say and if Amanda and Neil ever read this I do apologize because things can be taken out of context when editted for TV - But Neil, what is your problem?  You had 10 FREAKIN SECONDS left and you touched the treadmill.  WHY??

Amanda is looking good!  If it wasn't for BL and her wanting to lose the most weight for the prize, I'd say she can stop right where she's at and be proud of her loss.  But, if she's goin' for the gold....well girl, you just go get it and kick some ass.  Hopefully Neil can pull it through and we'll see how he does at the finale.

I'm also a bit curious about the teams and their screen time.  we just don't see much of the purple, yellow, and grey teams.  I wonder if that's a bad omen and we should be seeing them voted off the next few weeks.

My MPMU Why...

Myspace Comments @ 123glitter.com

Why do I want to win the Million Pound Match Up?  Because I want to look good naked.  And I don't mean Carson Kressley's version of looking good naked.

This body needs a butt kicking.  This body needs to be told what to do; because lord knows my alter ego wants nothing to do with exercise and the banishment of chocolate.  She already had to give up fast food and she was pissed!  Just wait until she finds out that she's gonna have to exercise.

Don't get me wrong - *I* love to exercise.  I was a track star in highschool, I played sports for fun, I rode my bicycle and walked a lot.  Dancing was, and still is, my favorite form of cardio.  But then I moved out of state - in the middle of winter - and had no friends' houses to walk to, and no track team to join.

Yup, December 1993 was when *she* was born.  My Alter Ego (AE for short) decided that she and snow didn't get along.  Now that we had our license, she didn't have to walk anywhere and  I could drive her to get fast food.  She was happy.  Thus began my 100 pound journey upward.

This week my plan is to get an hour of cardio in on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, Friday.  I'll work on upper body Monday, Thursday and lower body Tuesday, Friday.

I start school for the spring semester tonight.  Ah, Spanish.  Going to learn some more naughty words!  Then Jan. 26 I start  my class at the college in aerobics and another class on hips/thighs/abs.  Jan 27 I start taking Aikido!  This will be interesting.  Many are already wondering who on earth would give me the knowledge to kick some ass.
